From Miraflores, Maduro thanks Petro for reopening the border

Nicolas Maduro thanked his Colombian counterpart, Gustavo Petro, on Monday, September 26, for “restoring the relations of brotherhood, union, and cooperation” between the two countries.

During an act of delivery of the Order of Liberators and Liberators of Venezuela to Venezuelan worshipers, the president, Nicolás Maduro, thanked the president of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, for his willingness to open the borders between the two countries.

“From the history that unites us, I send to the president of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, the gratitude of more than 30 million Venezuelans for this immense step we have taken to restore brotherly relations, of solidarity between our peoples,” he stressed.

“Thank you for this great step. I knew this day was going to come,” she stressed.

On the other hand, Maduro did not attend the formal act of opening between the two borders that took place during a protocol act at the Simón Bolívar International Bridge. Representing this was Freddy Bernal, the Minister of Transport, Ramón Velasquez, the Minister of Industry, Hipólito Abreu, and the Superintendent of Seniat, José David Cabello.

Armando Benedetti, Colombian ambassador to Venezuela, declared during an interview with Noticias Caracol that the Venezuelan president would not attend due to “security issues.”

It should be noted that it was Nicolás Maduro who in 2015, after an incident during anti-smuggling operations in a border community, ordered the border to be closed.
