The Democratic Revolution deputy and member of the Defense Commission of the Chamber of Deputies, Jorge Brito, addressed The Counter at La Clave the leaking of more than 400 thousand emails from the Joint Chiefs of Staff (EMCO).
The situation has led to the creation of a National Cybersecurity Agency that would be in charge of the Ministry of Defense, with the aim that these events are not repeated in the future.
For the parliamentarian, in this “the relationship between civilians and the military has been damaged in the sense that there was an important concealment of information, where the resignation of General Paiva admits his responsibilities in charge of the EMCO.”

“In that sense, for us it is very important to think that there is a virtuous association between civilians and military, in the sense that the military who trains to be a soldier dedicates himself to being a soldier and the civilian, who prepares to be an accountant, public administrator, dedicate himself to accounting and administration”, he added.
For this, the RD parliamentarian proposes that civil society must be included so that it works together with the Armed Forces, since they can contribute different perspectives to those of the Army.
“In the particular case of cybersecurity, there are several engineering and software professionals who know much more than a soldier in this matter, and that is where we can integrate virtuous civil-military teams that allow us to have a cutting-edge defense that Today, unfortunately, we still lack,” he said.
