Prohibition is one of the least popular restrictions imposed by the National Elections Jury (JNE) for voters, but it is important to ensure the correct development of the elections. Do you know when it starts and how long it will last in these Peru Regional and Municipal Elections of 2022?
The dry law is part of the restrictions provided by the electoral legislation and deals with the prohibition of the sale of alcoholic beverages, but not consumption, so the sanctions go to the vendors, reported the JNE.
The electoral entity has informed that operations will be carried out in Lima and various regions of the country in order to enforce this and other restrictions and, thus, guarantee that the vote on October 2 takes place normally.
WHEN DOES THE DRY LAW START AND WHEN DOES IT END?
Drinks cannot be sold alcoholic beverages from 8 a.m. on Saturday until 8 a.m. on Monday. In detail, the Organic Law of Elections establishes that “From 8:00 a.m. the day before the day of the vote, until 08:00 a.m. the day after the election, the sale of alcoholic beverages of any kind is not allowed and the establishments or spaces of commercial establishments, dedicated exclusively to such sale”.
WHAT HAPPENS IF THE PREMISES DO NOT COMPLY WITH THE DRY LAW?
Stores, bars or other establishments that fail to comply with the so-called dry law will receive a fine of not less than S / 2,790 and those responsible can receive a sentence of up to six months in prison.
“Failure to comply with this provision is sanctioned with imprisonment of no more than six months, a fine of no less than 2,790 soles and an accessory penalty of disqualification for the same time as the sentence, which may consist of disabling the convicted person to perform the function or work that exercised”indicates the JNE on your page on the restrictions in the last week ahead of the October 2 elections.
