A total of 15 candidates are running for the Provincial Mayor’s Office of the Callao, a jurisdiction that has a projected population of 1 million 154 thousand inhabitants by 2022. Former congressmen, a teacher and a journalist are among the candidates for the municipal chair of the Chalaca commune, which is currently held by Mayor Pedro López.

- Supervise municipal management.
The election of the next provincial mayor of Callao is relevant considering that, According to information provided by the Ombudsman’s Office on Monday, September 26, this commune heads the ranking of municipalities with the most complaints.
According to the report, which incorporates information from all the offices of the Ombudsman during the period between January 2019 and August 2022, the ranking of provincial municipalities with the highest number of well-founded complaints (the violation of a right was proven) is led by the Provincial Municipality of Callao, with 650 complaints.
They are followed by the Provincial Municipality of Santa, with 622 complaints, and the Provincial Municipality of Chiclayo, with 399 cases.
