President Jair Bolsonaro received today (26) members of the Organization of American States (OAS) mission that will observe the elections in Brazil. The delegation is headed by the former Foreign Minister of Paraguay, Rubén Ramírez Lezcano. “Our mission is one of observation, respecting the institutional framework of Brazil, promoting the participation of Brazilian citizens in voting”, said Lezcano after the meeting at Palácio do Planalto.
According to him, the delegation’s agenda includes meetings with presidential candidates, representatives of political parties, government institutions, such as the Superior Electoral Court, civil society organizations and local observers. The result of these meetings, added to the direct observation of the election and the analysis of the regulations, will be presented by the OAS in a preliminary report, with observations and recommendations on the elections in the country.

Made up of 55 experts and observers of 17 nationalities, the mission will be present in the Federal District and in 15 states – Amazonas, Bahia, Ceará, Goiás, Maranhão, Minas Gerais, Pará, Paraíba, Paraná, Pernambuco, Piauí, Rio de Janeiro, Rio Grande do Sul, Santa Catarina, São Paulo. In addition, on election day, mission members will observe voting in three cities abroad: Porto, in Portugal, and Miami and Washington, in the United States.
The team has experts who will monitor different aspects of the elections, they are: technology and electoral organization, voting abroad, electoral justice, political financing, campaigns and freedom of expression, political participation of women, participation of indigenous and Afro-descendant groups and violence. electoral.
This is the third occasion that the OAS sends a mission to observe the electoral processes in Brazil. The first round of this year’s elections will be next Sunday (2) and the second, on October 30. The president of the Republic, governors, senators, federal, state and district deputies will be chosen.
