The technical director of the Uruguayan soccer team, Diego Alonso, was presented today in front of the Celeste team and expressed his confidence to qualify the team for the Qatar 2022 World Cup. “I’m here because I believe in the players that Uruguay has. Doing what we have to do, we will be in Qatar, “said the coach at a press conference from the Centenario stadium in Montevideo.
Alonso, 46, replaces Oscar Washington Tabárez, after a poor campaign in the current South American Qualifiers.
“Continuing the legacy of Tabárez is a beautiful responsibility, it is not pressure. It exalts us, said the coach, who comes from working at Inter Miami, in the US MLS.
Alonso’s official debut in Uruguay will be on January 27 against Paraguay, in Asunción, for the fifteenth date. Five days later, the Celeste team will host Venezuela.
