MADRID, Spain.- The Cuban repressive authorities arbitrarily arrested again this Sunday the Ladies in White María Cristina Labrada Varona and Berta Soler.
As reported through Facebook the activist Egberto Ángel Escobedo Morales, the arrest occurred when the opponents were leaving their homes to attend Sunday Mass, from where the Ladies in White ask for the release of the island’s political prisoners.
“A patrol of the PNR (National Revolutionary Police) takes her prisoner (Labrada) for an unknown unit and does not appear reported as detained. The family calls 106 to find out and they say that she does not appear as a detainee,” reported Escobedo Morales.
Just as he stressed that “this security method of the Communist Party that prevents opponents and dissidents from leaving their homes, violates all international human rights rules.”
In a later publication, the activist announced that the leader of the Ladies in White, Berta Soler, and her husband, Ángel Moya, had also been arrested.
This Sunday night Escobedo Morales denounced that María Cristina Labrada Varona, Berta Soler Fernández and Ángel Moya Acosta were still missing.
“They do not appear as detained by the Police and the place where they are kept is unknown,” he said.
This Friday Labrada Varona had been informed by a neighbor that since the morning there was “a patrol car with uniformed police officers, two women and a henchman on a motorcycle turning around her house.” The harassment continued on Saturday.
Since the Ladies in White announced in January 2022 that they were reactivating “the campaign of confrontation for the freedom of all political prisoners without exclusion”, its members have been subjected to surveillance and constants arrests.
