MIAMI, United States. — The National Electoral Council of the Cuban regime (CEN) extended the voting closing time for the referendum of the Family Code.
Due to inclement weather, the voting tables would close an hour later in Havana, Ciego de Ávila, Santiago de Cuba, Guantánamo, Holguín and in the special municipality of Isla de la Juventud.
The schedule was also extended in 28 districts of the Matanzas municipality, 14 districts of the Cárdenas municipality and eight of Jagüey Grande, all belonging to the Matanzas province. Something similar happened in the municipalities of Nuevitas, Esmeralda and Minas, in Camagüey.
The National Electoral Council confirmed that the rest of the schools in the country finished voting at six in the afternoon and began the counting process.
However, the agency has not returned to offer information on the process, which should have concluded at seven at night.
Throughout the day, the state press has offered follow-up to the referendum, highlighting the votes of the main leaders of the Cuban regime, among them the dictator Raúl Castro and the ruler Miguel Díaz-Canel.
According to the National Electoral Council, until two in the afternoon today, 4 million 961 thousand 775 citizens had voted, of the 8 million 425 thousand 147 that make up the official electoral roll, for a percentage of voting of 54.82%.
