The departmental prosecutor of La Paz, William Alave, assured that former mayor Luis Revilla is still in national territory and that a report from the Bolivian Police is awaited to proceed with his apprehension. The former mayor, in January of this administration, declared himself in hiding and is now prosecuted for the alleged overpricing in the acquisition of 61 PumaKatari buses, which are the public buses from the seat of government.
“We know that he is in rebellion, that he has an arrest warrant and that he is in national territory. The necessary police reports are being prepared in order to apply what corresponds to the law”reported the prosecutor Alave.
In this case of the PumaKatari buses there are two detainees. The first was the manager of the company that imported the motor vehicles from China and last Friday the person responsible for the contracting process for the award of the buses was arrested. Regarding this last case, the prosecutor Tomás Choque reported that the accused was charged with the crimes of uneconomic conduct, breach of duties and resolutions contrary to the constitution. The official said that his preventive detention will be requested in the San Pedro prison.
About Revilla, the departmental prosecutor of La Paz said that there are indications against the former mayor to request his apprehension for the alleged irregular purchase of public buses. Alave added that the investigation complies with the legal framework.
“We have enough elements for this person (Revilla), because he has been part of the acquisition of the PumaKatari and we are doing the investigation seriously. In this case they are accounting elements, elements where he has participated within the group of those who have requested the purchase of the buses”, Alava said.
In another case, the First Anti-Corruption and Violence Against Women Court declared former Mayor Revilla a rebel on September 13 because he did not appear at his hearing for precautionary measures. This process is the one followed by the Mayor’s Office of La Paz for the signing of a loan agreement with the garbage collection company Tersa.
In January of this management, Revilla declared himself in hiding and said -regarding the process that was presented by the leader related to the Movement Towards Socialism (MAS) Jesús Vera- that he was looking for evidence to demonstrate that there was no surcharge in the purchase of municipal transport buses.
