“I trust that President Petro will build tranquility in all Colombians”: Álvaro Uribe

"I trust that President Petro will build tranquility in all Colombians": Álvaro Uribe

After a time of not referring to President Gustavo Petro, in the last few hours the former president Álvaro Uribe Vélez, in the middle of his intervention in a forum that he led in the city of Cúcuta, made reference to the president of the Colombians.

In his speech, the leader of the Democratic Center party said that the country is currently divided, between those who feel optimistic about the current government and those who are skeptical that this can improve.

“Some people are very optimistic about the government of President Petro and another sector of the country has fears and skepticism,” Uribe said.

On the other hand, the former president said that “I particularly trust that you can get to a point; in which President Petro advances his task, building tranquility in all Colombians”.

Next, Álvaro Uribe Vélez stated that “That is why we are going to continue fighting, with arguments, respectfully, than by modifications to one reform and the other. Today in the circumstances of life, regardless of what my successes and failures could have been, looking at Colombians, I have to tell the new generations that our task has to be, not by a country divided between skeptics and fearful and optimistic; if not for a calm, optimistic country working”.

The event, which took place in the facilities of the Tonchala hotel, was attended by at least 600 people which upon the arrival of the former president received him with applause.

The activity was also attended by political leaders from Norte de Santander, who were in charge, together with former President Uribe, of listening to the people who went and brought with them problems that the region is experiencing.

This event takes place almost simultaneously with the meeting of the defense ministers of Colombia and Venezuela who met in the town of San Antonio del Táchira.
