The United States ambassador to Nicaragua, Kevin Sullivan, boasted this Saturday of the Nicaraguan origin of the communicator vanessa valdiviaappointed as Press Secretary of the first lady of the United States, Jill Biden, in the context of “Hispanic Heritage Month”.
“With a Nicaraguan mother, Vanessa Valdivia is a press secretary for the first lady of the United States, Jill Biden, and a special assistant to the president. Vanessa is an expert in strategic communications and one more example of the strong ties between our nations, ”said Sullivan, on her Twitter account.

The message was also reproduced by the United States Embassy in Managua, a country that commemorates “Hispanic Heritage Month” every year between September 15 and October 15.
The United States has been one of the main destinations for Nicaraguan migrants since the first time of the Sandinista Daniel Ortega as head of state of Nicaragua, between 1979 and 1990.

Close to 20% of the total population of Nicaraguan origin, estimated at 6.6 million inhabitants, lives abroad, mainly in the United States and Costa Rica, and it is estimated that half of them do so undocumented.
