A tugboat strike was announced this Friday night by the Ship Drivers Union (Siconara). They decreed: “a total cessation of activities on the ships that make up the FENA and CNA in its entirety, starting at 8:00 p.m. “This measure will be maintained until official communication from the union sector.” This action stopped the freedom frigate near Buenos Aires.
Raúl Durdos, general secretary of the United Maritime Workers Union (SOMU), lifted the strike so that the crew members of the freedom frigate reunite with their families.
Because the freedom frigate was stranded 50km from her destination, near the city of La Plata, the government issued mandatory conciliation for 15 days.
Said mandatory conciliation was ruled by Gabriela Marcello, national director of Labor Relations and Regulations, who urges the unions to: “repeal any direct action measure that they were implementing and/or planned to implement, providing services in a normal manner and habitual”.
In turn, he summoned the parties to the conflict to a meeting agreed for September 28 at the Ministry of Labor.
The freedom frigate It had set off on April 30 with 326 people on board, including 28 officers, 92 midshipmen in training and 191 non-commissioned officers, and traveled 22,038 nautical miles. 57 women are part of the crew.
