In a letter, a group of congressmen assures that the Florida authorities lied to a group of Venezuelan migrants to make them believe that they were going to fly to Boston to receive work papers. Instead, they were sent to Martha’s Vineyard, known as a summer island. Bexar County, which belongs to the border state of Texas, also promised to investigate this situation.
A group of Democratic congressmen asked the US Department of Justice this Friday to investigate whether federal funds were used in sending undocumented Venezuelan migrants by Republican authorities to the Democratic state of Massachusetts.
The letter addressed to Attorney General Merrick Garland called for an examination of whether Texas Governor Greg Abbott and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis violated federal law.
The group refers to the shipment last week of fifty Venezuelan migrants to the island of Martha’s Vineyard, in Massachusetts, from Texas and Florida.
According to his letter, Florida authorities lied to the migrants to make them believe that they were going to fly to Boston to receive work papers.
“Instead, they were put on buses, put on two charter flights and banned from taking photos during the trip, which made two unannounced stops before landing in Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts.”

Those migrants were given information that promised them access to refugee support programs, truly available only to those who already have asylum, not those who request it.
Her complaint also mentions that a woman identified as Perla paid $200 in cash to “at least” one immigrant to gather others to be part of that flight, which took place on September 14.
“The actions of the Texas and Florida officers are not only basically cruel and uniquely un-American, there is a possibility that federal laws were violated,” concluded his letter, which recalls that Bexar Countyin Texas, has already opened a criminal investigation, and demands Justice to do the same.
