Government asks to declare a state of emergency in areas affected by Fiona

Santo Domingo.- Alfred Pachecopresident of the Chamber of Deputies, announced yesterday Friday that the Executive Branch requested authorization from the National Congress, through the Chamber of Deputies, to declare a state of emergency for 45 days in the affected provinces after the passage of Hurricane Fiona.

As he mentioned, the provinces that have had great consequences are: La Altagracia, La Romana, San Pedro de Macorís, Santo Domingo, El Seibo, Hato Mayor, Monte Plata, Duarte, La Vega, Santiago, Samaná and María Trinidad Sánchez.

In this sense, Pacheco made an extraordinary summons to the Chamber of Deputies quoting for Monday at 2:00 in the afternoon in order to evaluate the letter received from the Government and make the decision of place.

These statements were given during his visit to the La Altagracia province where he was accompanied by deputies from different provinces to deliver a “modest contribution” with the aim of helping those affected by the meteorological phenomenon.

“We know that what we bring is not the solution, but, grain by grain, the chicken fills the crop and in this difficult time we need good will and solutions,” he said.
