To guide Brazilian consumers on the main types of card scams, the Brazilian Association of Credit Card and Services Companies (Abecs), which represents the electronic payment means sector, launched a campaign with five video classes. The videos present everyday situations and explain how some types of scams involving credit and debit cards work and what to do to protect yourself from them.
the video classes were made available for free on the YouTube platform. The objective of these classes, informed the association, is to prevent fraud, especially with the approach of traditional consumption dates such as Children’s Day, Black Friday and Christmas. The videos are short and last, on average, one minute.
One of the videos addresses, for example, the machine stroke and how the consumer should proceed to avoid falling into this trap. There is also a video warning about Scams with suspicious links sent in emails and another about the phone scamwhere the criminal calls the consumer and claims to be a bank employee to obtain personal and card information.
Among the alerts made by the association is that the customer always checks the value on the machine before authenticating the purchase. It is also important to be careful when entering the password and to verify that the card returned was the correct one. Another tip made by the association is so that the consumer never clicks on strange links that arrive by email or cell phone.
