President of Colmed for relaxation in sanitary measures: he affirms that it is a “progress, but we are still in a pandemic”, and highlights the importance of vaccines

The president of the Medical College (Colmed), patrick meza, addressed the relaxation of health measures -announced by the Ministry of Health (Minsal) this week and that will take effect on October 1- due to the decrease in cases by Covid-19. Meza appreciated the announcements, but indicated that we are still in a pandemic.

“From the Medical College we find it positive that we are facing a new scenario on the issue of the pandemic that allows us to de-escalate some of the restriction measures that we had until now,” said the president of Colmed in conversation with Cooperative Radio.

“This is progress, but we are still in a pandemic,” he said. On the sayings of the President of the United States, Joe Bidenwho indicated that “the pandemic is over”, Meza was critical and maintained that the President “is not the president of the WHO” and that “that is his opinion”.

“We in our country have to remain attentive to what the indications of the health authority are and how the virus evolves,” Meza commented.

He also highlighted the importance of vaccination to combat the pandemic. “You have to go get vaccinated, those who have not done it so far please attend because it is a way to protect yourself but it is also a community protection measure that will allow us to advance in better measures with respect to de-escalation restrictive,” he said.

On the other hand, he pointed out that “we have to accept that from now on (Covid-19) is going to behave like influenza, in the sense that we are going to have to vaccinate people who have some risk factor once a year. or the health personnel in charge of caring for all people”.

Let us remember that the Minsal announced on Wednesday the relaxation of a series of health measures. For example, they communicated that the masks will only be mandatory in health facilities, the end of the Mobility Pass (although they ruled out that they could reimplement it in the future), the end of capacity restrictions, among others. These will take effect on October 1.
