The head of government, Claudia Sheinbaum, decided to eliminate the photofines at the beginning of her administration by pointing out that it was a scheme for collection purposes, in which people with greater economic capacity could pay without fines and continue violating the Traffic Regulations.
The problem with photofines is that if someone has a lot of money, they don’t really care that they are permanently charging them for fines.

“It was a concession to a private company, where the private company took, I don’t remember at this time, but more than half of what was collected by photo fine. It was a business, ”he maintained during a press conference on August 1.
Sheinbaum has defended the implementation of photocivics by pointing out that they have changed the attitude of drivers, have reduced the number of traffic violations in the places of the city where they have been raised and are applied in an equitable manner regardless of the economic capacity of the driver.
“The photocivics are the same for everyone, no matter how much money you have, no matter what type of vehicle you have, the sanction is exactly the same for everyone: the first sanction is an exam; the second, a more complex exam; and so on until you get to work community”, affirmed the Head of Government.
