Just a month after being released Antauro Humala of the Ancón II prison, the president peter castle and his premier Aníbal Torres did not hesitate to open a space in the cabinet for one of his recent cadres.
Unexpectedly, around 7:17 pm, Castle sworn in as the new Minister of Defense (the fifth so far in his administration) to Daniel Barragan Colomaa 61-year-old FAP officer.
In 2021, Barragán ran as second vice president in the short list of the disappeared Union for Peru (UPP), a group used as a political platform by Antauro Humala and headed by former congressman José Vega.
Inclusively, Haydee Andrade Ríos, wife of the condemned ethnocacerista, was also included as first vice president.
In social networks there is still a record of Barragán’s political propaganda next to the face of Antauro Humala, sentenced to 19 years in prison for homicide and kidnapping of police officers in 2005.
Before that, Barragán had also tried to be provincial councilor of Lima in 2018 with UPP, while in 2016 he sought to be a congressman with the National Solidarity – UPP alliance. In none of his three applications was he successful.
And, like Antauro Humala’s good bishop, Barragán does not escape radical proposals, which is why there is concern at having been placed in a sensitive ministry. In an interview in March 2021, he was in favor of “confiscating” the LAN planes that were on Peruvian soil in the framework of COVID-19, in addition to promoting the death penalty “for corrupt presidents and high-ranking state officials and child rapists.
Before losing his new job as minister, Barragán Coloma had been working as parliamentary coordinator of the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism, headed since July last year by Roberto Sánchez, also leader of the Together for Peru party.
THE PLAY OF CASTLE
For the appointment of Barragán, an imminent change in the portfolio of Transport and Communications (MTC) was taken advantage of, after the censorship of Geiner Alvarado on September 15 for his investigations by criminal organization.
Castillo yesterday dismissed Richard Tineo Quispe from the Defense portfolio, where he had appointed him just 30 days ago, and now took him to the Transportation sector to replace Alvarado.
With this change, there are also five ministers who have paraded through the MTC so far, from where works and personnel contracts were negotiated, which today are being investigated by the Public Ministry.
“The first thing we are going to do is for the OCI to carry out an evaluation of the entire process of the previous steps in order to have a real diagnosis and, later, we will make the corresponding decisions,” Tineo told the press last night as soon as he was appointed. .
He also assured that he knows the sector because, before assuming the Defense portfolio, he served as director of Communications Policies and Regulation of the MTC and was also director of the National Telecommunications Program (Pronatel). What he didn’t say was that this last assignment only lasted two days.
KEEP IN MIND:
- “These changes show the orphanhood and the growing political isolation of the president’s government,” said APP congressman Eduardo Salhuana.
- “Nothing less than the Ministry of Defense falls into the hands of an ethnocacerist. A nerve and an insult that cannot be allowed,” said legislator Alejandro Cavero.
