-Mara Lezama is preceded by being a social journalist and being distinguished in the top 10 of the most honest mayors in the country.
Hours away from becoming the ninth governor of the country, a historical figure at the national level, Mara Lezama marks a turning point by becoming the first woman to occupy the governorship of the state in its almost 48 years of existence. This means that within the entity there are many expectations surrounding the new head of the executive power, which, however, is not new for Mara Lezama, who successfully governed for more than three years and in fact, obtained the re-election as mayor of the municipality of Benito Juárez and the youngest city in Mexico, Cancún.
As mayor, Mara Lezama stood out among the 50 best municipal presidents in Mexico and stood out in the top 10 of the most honest mayors in the country. Just in March of this year, the publication Campaigning & Elections Research in its Ranking of Mayors, placed Mara Lezama in 6th place with a general approval of 56.4%, a figure that placed her as the second best qualified mayor in Mexico.
Although Lezama Espino faces a greater challenge on this occasion, the truth is that his management opened with expectations resulting not only from his performance as head of Benito Juárez, but from two decades of delving into the social, political and economic problems of the condition; a career that began as a news host and a radio program focused on citizen complaints.
After his overwhelming victory in the elections and having a majority in the Congress of the entity, the people of Quintana Roo expect a diametric change in their history. The truth is that, for the first time, it will be a woman and more than a politician, a citizen, in charge of promoting the economic growth of the state, putting an end to corruption, stopping the advance of organized crime and ending inequality. All this the youngest entity in the Mexican Republic.
