Feminicidio en Mayabeque: un hombre mata a golpes a su exesposa y luego le prende fuego

Havana Cuba. — A man beat her ex-wife to death and then set her on fire this Friday morning in the La Salud neighborhood, belonging to the Quivicán municipality, Mayabeque province.

The victim’s name was Odalia Jorge González and, according to sources, she was over 70 years old. The murderer, her ex-husband, was identified as Elio González González, also over 70 years old.

The incident occurred around 7:30 in the morning in a two-story building located near the La Salud polyclinic.

“He beat her to death and then he was setting her on fire. The neighbors quickly got a fire extinguisher from a truck that was parked in the area and put out the fire, but the woman was already dead, “she told CubaNetOdaymis López, a neighbor of the place who witnessed the events.

“Elio was losing his mind. Apparently he just freaked out, because he wasn’t known to be a violent man,” the source added.

So far this year, independent feminist platforms have reported 26 femicides in Cuba, two of them vicarious, carried out against children of the victims.

The platform I do believe you in Cuba indicated last week that there have also been seven other attempts at femicide.

“We reiterate the importance of an official count to, among other necessary protections, prevent gender-based deaths,” the platform said on Twitter on September 15.
