The historian, former guerrilla and political prisoner Dora María Téllez began a partial hunger strike from the Chipote cell, where she has been for more than 15 months, as a protest against the inhuman conditions in which the regime of Daniel Ortega and Rosario maintains her, denounced the Mesoamerican Initiative of Women Human Rights Defenders (IM-Defenders).
Among those vulnerable conditions in which Téllez is subjected is solitary confinement, the prohibition of reading material. In addition, that they allow her to sign a power of attorney so that her relatives can withdraw her retirement pension, the agency said.
IM-Defensoras also explained that Téllez would be eating the food that his family sends him when the authorities allow it.
The strike could be a great danger for Téllez, since last August 31, when the regime publicly displayed a group of political prisoners during some invented hearings in the Managua courts, she lost weight and was emaciated.

“Dora María, who is 66 years old, presents a very deteriorated appearance that shows the precariousness of her physical condition after months of being held incommunicado, poor nutrition, deprivation of light and other sensory tortures that we have been denouncing from IM-Defenders. It is estimated that before starting the hunger strike she had already lost more than 15% of her body mass. In such a state, maintaining a hunger strike, even if it is partial, can lead to an even more serious decline in her health, putting her life at risk, ”the agency warned.
