Nine convictions for human trafficking for the purpose of sexual exploitation were handed down so far this year, making a total of 326 since 2009, according to a survey by the Human Trafficking and Exploitation Prosecutor’s Office (Protex).
The body released the report this Friday, in the International Day Against Sexual Exploitation and Trafficking in Women, Boys and Girlsthe same date on which in 1913 the Senate of the Argentine Nation sanctioned Law 9,143, a project by the socialist deputy Alfredo Palacios, which became the first law in the world to punish trafficking and provide protection to minors affected by the crime.
The crime of trafficking in persons was incorporated into the Argentine legal system after the sanction of Law 26,364 on the Prevention and Punishment of Trafficking in Persons and Assistance to its Victims in 2008, which in addition to sexual exploitation also provides for the repression of that conduct. carried out for the purpose of labor exploitation.
This rule was reformed in 2012 through the law 26,842.

Convictions by year and district
In 2009, the first three convictions for human trafficking for the purpose of sexual exploitation were recorded.
