This October 2 is the Regional and Municipal Elections of Peru of 2022 (ERM), where 24,759,909 Peruvians and 153 foreigners have been summoned to elect their authorities for the next four years. In the elections, 13,032 authorities will be elected in 25 regional governments, 196 provincial municipalities and 1,694 district municipalities of the country, who will be in office from 2023 to 2026. WHAT IS THE PENALTY FOR NOT VOTING?
The National Elections Jury (JNE) ordered the following electoral fines for the 2022 Regional and Municipal Elections, in accordance with the Law No. 28859 and the classification of the districts carried out by the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI).

- Omiso who lives in a non-poor district: S/92.00.
- Omiso who lives in a poor district: S/46.00.
- Omiso who lives in extreme poor district: S/23.00.

- Refuse to form the electoral table: S/ 230.00.
WHAT HAPPENS IF I DO NOT PAY THE ELECTORAL FINE?
- You will not be able to get your passport.
- You will not be able to register any act related to your marital status (marriage, divorce, widowhood, etc.).
- You will not be able to intervene in judicial or administrative proceedings.
- You will not be able to carry out notarial acts or sign any type of contract.
- You cannot be appointed public official.
- You will not be able to enroll in any social program and/or get a license.
HOW CAN I KNOW IF I HAVE AN ELECTION FINES?

Once you confirm if you are fined, enter the service pay it.pe with your username or password. In the search engine, select “JNE” and then “Electoral fines”. Enter your ID number and the fines will appear and you can cancel them by following the instructions on the platform. You can also pay in person at the branches of the Banco de la Nación or at the cash desk of the JNE office.
NOTE: Remember that the payment of fines is not personal and anyone can pay your debt with your ID number.
WHAT WILL BE THE SCHEDULE OF THE 2022 REGIONAL AND MUNICIPAL ELECTIONS?
The schedule to comply with the duty to vote is from 7 am to 5 pm, but the ONPE suggests voting in a staggered schedule in order to avoid crowds, because we are still in a pandemic. This is the proposal:
Voters in risk groups
If you are an older adult, pregnant woman or person with disabilities or at risk, it is recommended to go at the following times
- From 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
voters at large
If you do not belong to a risk group, it is recommended to go at the following times, according to the last digit of your ID:
- 1, 2, 3 and 4: from 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
- 5,6, 7, 8, 9 and 0: from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
