Cuban actress Gina Cabrera died this Monday in Havana at the age of 93, they confirmed to 14ymedio close friends of the interpreter. From her first steps in art she was listed as the Queen of Drama in Cuba and among his followers his name is a symbol of drama and theatricality.

The Artistic Agency for Performing Arts (Actuar) when communicating the death of Cabrera regretted the departure of the “first Cuban actress” and sent “condolences to her family and friends.”

The director Carlos Collazo, close to Cabrera, remembered her in her social networks as a figure “admired and respected” by all her public, who turned her “into a myth or a living legend.” “I thank her son Alejandro for allowing me to be with her on the occasion of her 93rd birthday and for being able to keep her words and the kiss on my hand that left a mark on me forever.”

Luisa Georgina Cabrera Parada was born in Havana in 1928, although she was better known by the stage name of Gina Cabrera. She was one of the founders of television in the country where she participated in all genres: comedies, tragedies, novels, adventures, theater and children’s programs.

Of his dramatic interpretations, one of the most remembered novels is Batey sun, where he worked alongside other leading figures such as Verónica Lynn, Aurora Pita and Ramoncito Veloz.

In 1953 the Elbow Magazine named Cabrera and Raquel Revuelta as the first television actresses and the Association of Radio and Television Chroniclers selected her as the first actress on the small screen in 1956.

Thanks to her fruitful career, in 2004 she was distinguished as an Artist of Merit and received numerous recognitions, including the Caricato Television Special Award, in 1999, and the National Television Award in 2003, for her lifetime work.

At the beginning of last December, Cebrera’s son, Alejandro Delgado, published in Facebook a post denouncing the little help that his mother received as an artist from the former National Institute of Radio and Television, today the Information and Social Communication Institute, where he worked for many years. “Some rice, some peas, leftover spaghetti trimmings, sauce and bulk oil,” he described along with a photo with the products that were delivered to the consecrated actress and whom he called “tremendous offense.”
