Senator Oscar Salomón, president of the National Congress, accompanied by deputy Carlos María López, head of the Lower House, received in audience HE Javier García de Viedma, ambassador of the European Union in Paraguay, who was accompanied by a delegation of European parliamentarians .
The meeting was also attended by Senator Lilian Samaniego, president of the Committee on Foreign Relations and International Affairs, and her fellow legislators Jorge Querey and Patrick Kemper.
The delegation that visited the legislative headquarters was made up of Jordi Cañas, Gabriel Mato, Leopoldo López Gil, Mónica Silvana González, all of them from Spain; Morten Løkkegaard, from Denmark; and Beata Mazurek, from Poland.
The six European parliamentarians make up the Delegation for Relations with Mercosur (DMER), who visit the country with the aim of strengthening relations with Paraguay and promoting the Association Agreement between the European Union and Mercosur.
After concluding the meeting in the Presidency of the Chamber of Senators, the European parliamentarian Jordi Cañas, expressed that they have conveyed their gratitude to the Paraguayan people and both Chambers for the support that Europe has received as a result of the conflict between Ukraine and Russia.
He also said that, as a European Parliament, they want to work on a positive agenda to find out what Europeans can learn from Paraguay, and in this sense, he highlighted the energy issue and the renewable energy produced by our country.
Likewise, the parliamentarian mentioned that they talked with the legislators about the challenges that both countries have and what are the instruments that they can work to face together, such as what concerns the security issue.
