would you like to be air traffic controller? The Peruvian Corporation of Airports and Commercial Aviation (Corpac) offers scholarships for the basic course of air traffic controller, a position with great demand in the country, which is also well paid.
In this note, learn a little more about what it is, how much you can earn, as well as what the requirements and deadlines are to apply for one of the 50 scholarships that are awarded, according to the Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC).
WHAT IS AN AIR TRAFFIC CONTROLLER AND WHAT ARE ITS FUNCTIONS?
An air traffic controller is the person who is responsible for providing service from an airport Control Tower to control that aircraft traffic is safe. Its functions and characteristics include:
- To be in charge of the administration of the air traffic of the aerodrome and its surroundings, as well as that which circulates on the runways, taxiways and maneuvering area.
- Maintain visual, radio, and radar contact with the aircraft to ensure that it approaches the landing zone, and that it lands and takes off safely.
- Have a high level of concentration and good visual conditions.
- Have visual control of the personnel and/or vehicles that move in the aerodromes (trailers, aerodrome firefighters, ambulances, etc.).
WHAT ARE THE REQUIREMENTS TO ACCESS THE AIR CONTROLLER SCHOLARSHIP?
Registration for the selection process will take place from October 3 to 12. To participate is required:
- Be a Peruvian citizen by birth.
- Have command of the English language.
- Be between 18 and 25 years old.
- Complete secondary education.
- Pass the knowledge test.
- Be in good physical, psychotechnical and psychological condition.
- Affidavit of not having a police, judicial and criminal record (Format D) legalized before a notary.

WHAT IS THE AIR TRAFFIC CONTROLLER COURSE ABOUT?
The Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC) reported that the basic air traffic control course lasts 12 months. It consists of three phases: theoretical, practical (simulators) and on-the-job training (OJT).
During the dictation of the course, the students will receive the necessary study materials, such as: offprints, copies, manuals, ICAO annexes, etc.; either in physical or electronic media.
HOW MUCH DOES AN AIR TRAFFIC CONTROLLER EARN?
A report from “Punto Final” indicates that a controller can earn between S/7 to S/60 thousand, because there are not many personnel and therefore they are forced to work overtime.
