Justice condemns soldiers Jorge Silveira and Ernesto Ramas for the disappearance of Óscar Tassino during the dictatorship

As was known in the last few hours, Judge Bellomo ordered the conviction of Silveira and Ramas as co-perpetrators of “six crimes of deprivation of liberty, four crimes of abuse of authority, four crimes of serious injuries, and one crime of forced disappearance as of authors”.

In April 2021, Judge Silvia Urioste had already ordered the indictment of retired Colonel Eduardo Ferro, for the crime of “very especially aggravated homicide” of Óscar Tassino, three crimes of “deprivation of liberty” and one of “abuse of authority in real reiteration” against detainees during the dictatorship.

Facts

According to information from the collective project Sites of Memory Uruguay, Oscar was 40 years old when he was arrested, he was a public employee of UTE, the father of three children and a member of the Communist Party.

On July 19, 1977, he was kidnapped as part of an operation by the Joint Forces, led by Colonel Eduardo Ferro, and transferred to the clandestine detention and torture center of La Tablada.

From testimonies of other hostages in the place it is known that he died as a result of a beating, he is still missing.
