The plenary of the Superior Electoral Court (TSE) confirmed today (20) the individual decision of the minister Maria Claudia Bucchianeri that denied the right of reply to the candidate for vice president Geraldo Alckmin (PSB), who composes the slate formed by the candidate Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT).
The case deals with the use of old speeches by the former governor of São Paulo against the PT in the electoral campaign of the candidate for reelection Jair Bolsonaro (PL). The Alckmin campaign claimed that the statements presented again were out of context and constituted disinformation.
By unanimously maintaining the decision, the plenary followed the rapporteur’s understanding. According to the minister, the statements, although old, are true.
“If the speeches brought are qualified as public and notorious, it is unnecessary to consider a fact that is known to be untrue, an indispensable presupposition for the exceptional granting of the right of reply”, he justified.
