The authorities of the Islamic Republic of Iran confirmed this Tuesday, September 20, that three people died during the protests over the death of a young woman detained by the so-called “Moral Police”, but tried to deflect blame from the security forces by saying that the protesters were “suspicious.”
The protests have been recorded in at least 40 locations in that country. According to the Kurdish human rights group Hengaw, three people were killed in the Kurdistan region when security forces opened fire. One of the dead was identified as Farjad Darvishi.

Although the governor of that province confirmed the deaths, he reiterated that they are “suspicious.”
In Tehran, the capital, the police fired tear gas, according to the Fars news agency. Tehran Governor Mohsen Mansouri accused foreign agents of “fostering” violence in the country and said citizens of three foreign countries were detained during Monday’s rallies.

In that nation it is mandatory to cover your hair in public. This police also prohibits women from wearing short coats above the knee, tight pants and jeans with holes, as well as brightly colored outfits, among others.
The young woman fell into a coma after her arrest on September 13 and died three days later in hospital, according to state television and her family. Activists called her death “suspicious”, but Tehran Police said there was “no physical contact” between officers and the victim.
