Two women died and a man suffered serious injuries in a car accident that occurred this Sunday on the Vía Blanca highway, which connects Havana with Matanzas.
The event came to light on social networks, but has not been confirmed by the authorities. According to comments in a group specialized in accident reports on Facebook, the crash occurred near the Pepito Tey checkpoint, when a white vehicle collided with a yellow taxi.
The driver of the white vehicle died at the time of the accident, according to a witness, while her companion was taken to the hospital with serious injuries and died upon arrival at the assistance center. The taxi driver was also taken to hospital with injuries.
In the photographs shared by users, it is evident that the body of the white car, of the Russian brand Lada, was completely destroyed and on the side of the road, while the taxi involved showed damage to the trunk. In the images, police officers and firefighters are seen working on the scene after closing the passage of vehicles.

This accident occurred when the driver of the truck entered the opposite lane while trying to overtake, but lost control and collided head-on with the bus, whose panoramic windows and front panel were completely destroyed.
The National Road Safety Commission (CNSV) highlights that the main causes of traffic accidents in Cuba are the lack of attention of the driver, the breach of the right of way and speeding. Added to this are the poor signage on the streets and the lack of lighting, as well as the lack of driver education.
