The earthquake drill of the Secretary of Defense had to become a real deployment of its Immediate Reaction Team for Emergencies and Disasters (Eried) when, minutes after the rehearsal, the seismic alert began to be heard on the Damián Carmona esplanade of the Military Camp No. 1-A.
The 550 elements of this squad had been deployed together with their vehicles, after the drill, and Colonel Ernesto Santiago Rodríguez Palacios explained that the Eried can be ready 13 minutes after receiving the alarm, ready to deploy by air or land to any point of the country where it is needed.
At that moment, the seismic alert was heard again in the distance, from the loudspeakers of the capital government, so that most of the military did not realize that it was an emergency, now real, until the alarm went off. he also heard in the audio from the military camp.
The Eried was created to be the first responder within the protocols of the DN-III-E Plan and has military health personnel, technical specialists in search and rescue, and perimeter security.
It has five canine pairs trained to locate victims, special cameras and infrared equipment capable of locating buried people.
