Rosa Icela Rodríguez, Secretary of Public Security and Citizen Protection, reported that August 2022 is the month in which the fewest violent deaths have been recorded so far in the six-year term.
“The intentional homicide decreases 14.6%; It is the lowest August for five years in terms of this crime. Here we have the first eight months of 2019, 2020, 2021 and 2022, they are the eight months from January to August and here are the daily averages, and in relation to the previous ones we have a decrease of -8.4% from -12% and -10.6% from the previous three years,” he said.
This crime presented a decrease between July and August, going from 2,681 to 2,624.
Of the accumulated in 2022, six entities concentrate 10,108 (48.7%) intentional homicides:
- Guanajuato, governed by the PAN, 2,115.
- Baja California, led by Morena, 1,801.
- Michoacán, administered by Morena, 1,767.
- State of Mexico, where the PRI is the government, 1696.
- Jalisco, governed by the Citizen Movement, 1,394.
- Chihuahua, where the PAN rules, 1,335.
The secretary reported that some crimes showed decreases such as robbery (-18%), vehicle theft (-40%) and kidnapping (-73%).
“This drop in kidnapping crimes is due to the work of the National Anti-Kidnapping Coordination and all the Anti-Kidnapping Units of the states. In this time, from July to August 2022, 4,557 people have been arrested, 518 gangs have been dismantled and 2,057 victims have been released,” he reported.
Femicides increased from 57 in July to 67 in August. With this figure, in the government of López Obrador there are 3,682 deaths due to gender.
Between intentional homicides and femicides, there are 129,888 violent deaths in the current government.
