Two government operations centers will be installed between today and tomorrow in Higüey and Samaná in order to coordinate assistance and rescue actions in the eastern communities that have been declared disaster areas due to the effects of category 1 hurricane Fiona.
This was reported this Monday by President Luis Abinader during a press conference at the National Palace, in which he specified that an operations center is being installed in the municipality of Higüey to serve that same town and the entire eastern region.
For such purposes, as of today the Minister of Public Works, Deligne Ascención, will go to Higüey to coordinate the actions together with the Minister of Housing, Carlos Bonilla; the Minister of Health, Daniel Rivera; the director of the National Health Service, Mario Lama; the director of INDRHI, Olmedo Caba Romano; managers of the Ede, a representation of Inapa, the Social Plan of the Presidency and others.
The president indicated that, tomorrow, then, José Ignacio Paliza, Administrative Minister of the Presidency, will go with the Minister of the Interior and Police, Jesús Vásquez and other officials to also set up a command in Samaná, as the rains and winds allow.
When asked about his scheduled trip to New York, United States, for the UN Assembly, the president stated that the priority is the situation in the country and that the relevance or otherwise of his departure from the country will be evaluated.
