11J protester receives an extra-criminal license for his delicate state of health

Javier Delgado Torna, 11J, preso político

MIAMI, United States. – Javier Delgado Torna, a 11J protester in Caibarién, Villa Clara, sentenced to three years and six months in prison for the alleged crime of public disorder, received an extra-penal license on July 6, the political prisoner himself assured in an interview with CubaNet.

Delgado Torna said that, after finding out through social networks about the demonstrations that were taking place in Cuba, on July 11, 2021, he joined a group of young people and went out into the street.

“We decided to go out to the march, we agreed on the place and, when we arrived, there were thousands of people waiting. We went out shouting slogans but never hurting anyone. There was no violence and we did not attack anyone. It was a peaceful march with a distance of 1,800 meters, ”he detailed.

Agents from the Ministry of the Interior (MININT) and State Security arrested Delgado Torna at his home on the same night of 11J. “They stop me in front of my granddaughter and my daughter, and take me to the Bivouac,” he recalled.

Regarding his experience in prison, he denounced the mistreatment received by both common and political prisoners.

“Common prisoners go through calamities. Imagine then a political prisoner. They live with the same stress but with much more persecution; their families are the reason for requisitions, of mistreatment. We can’t talk to the family, they suspend our phones, they suspend our visits, the pavilions”, he lamented.

Delgado Torna’s situation was even worse due to the chronic illnesses he suffers from: ischemic heart disease, diabetes and hypertension.

“Apart from my illnesses, which were getting worse every time in prison, I lived with the pressure that something could happen to me at any moment because I supported all my brothers in the struggle,” he said.

Due to her delicate state of health, Adriana Delgado, her daughter, requested an extra-penal license that was finally approved on July 6, 2022. The young woman alleged that her father was “like seven or eight months without being seen by a cardiologist.”
