Geiner Alvarado exerted pressure when he was Minister of Housing to favor the real estate company MarkaGroup in speeding up and finalizing the approval of its procedures in the My Housing Fund (FMV), according to the statement of a witness protected by the Prosecutor’s Office.
Fourth Power announced that, during August 2021, Salatiel Marrufo —then head of the Cabinet of Housing Advisors— demanded “information on pending issues and procedures that the company MarkaGroup was carrying out with the FMV, at the express request of Minister Geiner Alvarado and the President of the Republic”, according to said source. A video call meeting between Alvarado, Marrufo and the markaGroup businesswoman, Sada Goray, would reinforce this statement.
According to the report, the real estate company sought to finalize the approval of two procedures in the FMV: the agreement to grant mortgage loans without supervision of the SBS and the approval of a trust scheme.
The three directors of the FMV Risk Committee, however, denied MarkaGroup’s request, since it was required to put a 25% contribution into the trust and the company was only willing to give 15%. A week later, three of the five FMV directors were removed. After the recomposition, it is approved to give an exception to the real estate.
