The combination of anticovid vaccines from different pharmaceutical companies provides a “booster”, or reinforcement, that favors a better response against the new variants of the disease, said this Sunday the Deputy Minister of Epidemiological Promotion and Surveillance, María Renee Castro, who considered the combination as an “advantage”.
“The combination of vaccines generates a booster for us, that is, the immune system is much more potentiated to fight against new variants. That is precisely what began to apply a few months ago; therefore, do not wait for your third dose to be the same as the first and second, go and apply the one that is available, in this case the one we are using the most for the benefit is AstraZeneca, and for the rest of the population that AstraZeneca has we have and we are going to have the Moderna available, ”he told state-run Bolivia TV.
Castro considered an advantage of the country the fact of not having applied a homogeneous vaccine, because the combination allows “a diversity at the immunological level” that reinforces the blockade of new variants.

“One of the great advantages of our country, in addition, in this matter, has been precisely not having had a homogeneous vaccine. We have not only worked with a line of vaccines to immunize our population, but the fact of managing the portfolio of vaccines has generated many benefits at the population level; that is to say, there is a diversity at the immunological level that is generating, in some way, also this blockage, it is something very positive, “he said.
He added that the important thing is to combine the vaccines; therefore, the largest population that has been vaccinated with Sputnik, Sinopharm, Pfizer, or anyone else should get AstraZeneca as a booster dose; and, in the case of the Moderna vaccines, it will go to the reinforcement of those who used the AstraZeneca.
“In other words, the more we combine the vaccines, the better, because we obtain a benefit from two different platforms,” remarked the deputy minister.
