Uruguay and Argentina they work together on a railway connection between Salto and Concordiaaccording to the Undersecretary of Transportation and Public Works, Juan José Olaizola.
“It caters to local needs and we feel a symbol of integration between the two countries, an important landmark”, said the hierarch, according to the website of the Presidency.
Both he and the president of the State Railway Administration (AFE), José Pedro Pollak, met in Buenos Aires with Argentine leaders of the sector. In this meeting, the Uruguayans presented the draft of the project to agree on the execution of the train that joins both territories.
Olaizola described the meeting as productive and indicated that he is awaiting Argentina’s response.
According to the authorities, between Salto and Concordia mobilize about 400 people per daywhich would grant viability to the project.
To carry it out, the neighboring country must carry out a three-kilometre work, while Uruguay “has two possibilities: that the train reaches the center” of the capital of Salta, which “is not so important” in terms of works, or that the Salto Grande dam transfers to a bus and that it arrives in that city.
Likewise, progress was also made in signing a railway agreement between both nations so that Argentine trains operate in Uruguay and vice versa, through the Salto Grande dam track.
For his part, Pollak pointed out that this type of transport is the only one that does not currently work between neighboring countries, unlike land, sea and air, which have been present for many years.
