The Petroperú company reported that it reached agreements with the communal authorities of Cuninico to continue with the work of containing and cleaning the oil spill registered in the Cuninico and Marañón rivers, in Loreto, after an intentional cut was made to the pipe located in the kilometer 42+092 of the Norperuano Pipeline (ONP), in the district of Urarinas.
He indicated that this task will continue with the support of specialized companies. To do this, crews carry out patrolling and supervision tasks in order to identify other sectors of the river that require the installation of these containment equipment.
“In the same way, the definitive repair of the pipe will be carried out.”, specified the state company in a statement.
He added that after containing the leak of crude oil with the installation of a metal clamp, containment barriers were placed at the mouth of the Cuinico River, at the mouth of the Marañón River, having installed 19 barriers so far whose main Its function is to prevent the displacement of hydrocarbons.
It should be noted that these actions are carried out in accordance with Petroperú’s contingency plan after the oil spill that occurred on September 16.
On the other hand, the oil company maintained that it had the presence of the Environmental Assessment and Enforcement Agency (OEFA), the National Water Authority (ANA) and the Supervisory Agency for Investment in Energy and Mining (Osinergmin), institutions that came to carry out their supervisory duties.
Food and water delivery
As part of the agreements, Petroperu announced that it will begin this Monday the delivery of water and food packs to the first identified neighboring communities. For this purpose, the coordination is developed with the communal authorities, who will reach the registry of the families that will be assisted with this supportive and preventive aid.
So far, according to the state company, section I of the ONP has been paralyzed for seven months, which is why its operation is urgent to fulfill its mission of transporting crude oil from private operators and thus contribute to the development of the oil industry. hydrocarbons in the country.
Petroperu He also urged the communities to maintain dialogue, in order to avoid stoppages that delay cleaning and remediation work, prioritizing the health and well-being of neighboring populations.
