La Romana.- A man was killed last night when confronting members of the National Police, after killing three people and barricading himself in a wooden warehouse, located in the Güaymate alley in the Villa Pereyra sector, with a shotgun to avoid being caught.
It is about the cabinetmaker, Roman Guerrero Tavárez (a) Danielito, 49 years old, who in order to kill the civilians Aneury Caraballo Caraballo (a) Motoconcho, 26 years old, Gamalier Mota García, 27, Fernando Joenny de Mota, 26, and wounding Eliezer Mota García used a 12-gauge Marverick shotgun.
One of the agents involved in the event died after the confrontation. This was identified as second lieutenant Manuel Moisés Hernández, who had been held hostage by the killer “El Ebanista”.
According to the preliminary report, a preventive patrol went to an alert from the 9-1-1 emergency system, where it reported that there was a person firing shots in the indicated alley.
When the agents arrived at the scene, they saw three dead people lying on the pavement, so they proceeded to look for the author, who had barricaded himself in a wooden warehouse on his property.
Under these circumstances, Second Lieutenant Manuel Moisés Hernández, together with privates Luis Carlos Reyes Reyes, Moisés Santana Navarro and Corporal Adelin Alberto Maldonado, entered the warehouse in order to arrest him, firing several shots from a shotgun, resulting in the death of officer Moisés Hernández, and the privates and the wounded corporal.
“El ebanista” after killing the officer and injuring the enlisted men, stripped them of their regulation weapons and an AK-47 rifle, caliber 7.62mm., later wounding Sergeant Pedro Alejandro González Sánchez.
A family member from the National Police and the MP appeared at the scene of the incident and tried to persuade him to turn himself in, without heeding the call.
Hours later, a Special Operations Swat team from Santo Domingo arrived at the scene, being met with gunfire, wounding Corporal Jorge Luis Cuevas Pérez.
Then the suspect showed up at the door shooting at the police members, for which they were forced to repel the attack, resulting in multiple gunshot wounds.
Authorities recovered the deceased officer’s rifle and pistol, as well as the shotgun he used in the incident.
The National Police reported that no complaint from “Danielito” appears in its system.
According to statements made by a witness, he said that he heard when Roman Guerrero Tavárez (a) Danielito, with the first three deceased, told them that he was tired.
At the scene, 12 fired 12-gauge cartridges, thirteen 7.62-caliber shell casings, 86 5.58-caliber shell casings, and 46 9mm-caliber shell casings were collected.
