The Ministry of the Interior reported a drop in seven crimes

Seven crimes experienced casualties during the second week of September, in relation to the same period but last year, according to data recorded by the Venezuelan Citizen Security Observatory, an entity attached to the Ministry of the Interior, Justice and Peace.

The crimes whose incidence fell in week 37 of the year, which runs from Monday 5 to Sunday 11 September, are: homicide, vehicle theft, vehicle theft, kidnapping, rape, extortion and computer crimes.

When detailing the total figures, the Observatory records that in week number 37 of last year 56 homicides were committed and for this year 41 occurred, which means a decrease of 26.8%, for example.

Kidnapping and personal injury experienced an increase during week 37.

The Observatory also made an accumulation of the criminal indicators that occurred from January 1 to September 11 last and their respective comparison with the same period of 2021.

To carry out this study, the Observatory took into account eleven crimes. Thus, in the aforementioned period (37 weeks), the crime that has been committed the most is theft (15,482), which means an increase of 7.7% compared to 2021.

Theft (7,706) appears second in the list of the eleven crimes and registers an increase of 7.5% in relation to the year 2021.

This is followed by: personal injuries (5,787), physical violence (4,589), computer crimes (1,998) and vehicle theft (1,657).

Homicide victims rank seventh out of the 11 indicators studied by the Observatory. Until last September 11, 1,653 homicides were registered. Later follows the theft of vehicles (1,391), rape (183) and finally kidnapping (32).

Increase

Based on these eleven indicators, in these 37 weeks of the year 40,784 crimes have been committed, which translates into an increase of 2.3% compared to last year.

During these 37 weeks of the year, four crimes registered increases: personal injuries, theft, robbery and physical violence.

While the remaining seven experienced declines compared to the same period last year: physical violence (-54.3%), rape (-34.4%), homicide victims (28%), computer crimes (11.5%) , vehicle theft (-10.6%), extortion (-7.6%) and vehicle theft (-1.7%).

These figures were analyzed at the weekly citizen security meeting chaired by the Minister of the Interior, Remigio Ceballos and with the participation of the directors of security forces, according to their social networks.
