This December 29, the Ministry of Health of the country assured that Colombia is entering a nNew peak of covid-19 infections.
The cause of the situation is omicron variant, of which it is known that it is more contagious, but less deadly than delta, which was the one that was predominant in recent months.

According to the Minister of Health, Fernando Ruiz Gómez, the health authorities will take a series of measures and recommendations to attend to the new peak. But, while that happens, they delivered some recommendations to mitigate, once again, the spread of the virus.
Julián Fernández Niño, director of Epidemiology and Demography of the Minsalud, explained that in all the countries where omicrons have been identified, they register a very abrupt peak of infections, so it is important to maintain basic biosafety measures.

“Proper use of a mask, particularly in confined and poorly ventilated spaces, is essential to prevent transmission”, He assured.
He reiterated the importance of have windows and doors open when it is being shared with more people, “which would decrease the probability of contagion in these closed spaces“.
To those who register any symptoms, he asked them to isolate immediately and ask for proof: “Because in a very short time you can be contagious to other people and affect your loved ones”.

Finally, and as has been done in recent months, he called on the population to come to get vaccinated.
“If you have not been vaccinated, access the vaccination, finish your schedule and access your booster dose when it is your turn, especially with a heterologous combination, which gives very good protection”, Highlighted Fernández Niño.

“If we take care of each other and increase vaccination, omicron will have little impact in terms of mortality and serious cases”Fernández Niño closed, while affirming that most of the cases that are being registered are mild.
And Minister Ruiz Gómez stressed that “If we take care of ourselves and protect ourselves in the coming weeks, we will have the possibility of keeping the different activities open, available, all the movement of the economic sector and everything that we have been enjoying since the past four months”.
