After the protests carried out this Thursday at the Obelisk, demanding measures for the forest fires on the islands of the Paraná Delta, next week a special session will be held in the Chamber of Deputies to debate the wetland law.
Because of all that has been dilated the projectthis weekend, 520 environmental, social, neighborhood and community organizations will mobilize throughout the country to demand the treatment and approval of the wetland law.
After ten years of projects presented and three frustrated attempts to approve the norm, there was consensus between the blocks; so that the wetland law It will be discussed in the plenary session of the Budget, Natural Resources and Environment, and Agriculture and Livestock committees, next Thursday.
Meanwhile, Greenpeace, one of the organizations promoting this weekend’s demonstrations, expressed in a press release that it is essential to act now and promote public policies to protect these ecosystems.
“Wetlands have enormous biological, social, cultural and economic value. They are keys to the functioning of nature as a whole. 21.5% of our country is covered by a great diversity of wetlands, reaching all the Argentine provinces and it is estimated that 40% of the world’s biodiversity lives or reproduces in them”.
And they added: “Wetlands are in a state of emergency. Without a law, there is no protection policy for these ecosystems”, therefore it is urgent that the law be approved as soon as possible.
The days of protest will take place on Saturday and Sunday throughout the country, in accordance with what each participating organization establishes. In the case of Greenpeace, it will be on the Rosario-Victoria bridge, in the city of Rosario.
There are fires in at least 13 provinces
In recent weeks there have been forest fires in 13 provinces, of which 9 still have active outbreaks, for which environmental organizations also demand that those responsible be prosecuted.
This, given that it is estimated that 90% of fires are caused, which in addition to an environmental crisis, generates a social and economic crisis.
