Fleitas and Villarejo meet with a view to 2023

Hugo Fleitas, liberal governor of Cordillera, reported on his social networks that he held a meeting with the authorities of the Patria Querida party (PPQ). This, with a view to the presidential elections of 2023.

“Agreement and Unity for a Better Life for Paraguayans, is the agenda that brings us together today with the Patria Querida Party. Cordial meeting with its president, deputy Sebastián Villarejo; Mario Paz Castaing and the deputy Sebastián García ”, reads the post published on social networks.

Fleitas, in contact with our media, stated that it was a courtesy visit. The reason was to start a dialogue with a view to the next presidential elections, considering that the PPQ recently joined the “Table of Opposition Parties”.

“We made progress on some issues. Of the need that, in the agreement, the programmatic axes are general. Look for the coincidences that unite us, mainly in the need for change in our country ”, he said.

The politician pointed out that programs or axes cannot be established where there are coincidences in 100% of the ideas. This, because the agreement is made up of ideologically distant parties and movements.

OTHER MEETINGS
Fleitas has already held meetings with other opposition leaders such as Sixto Pereira, national senator for the Guasu Front. Also with the deputy Kattya González of the National Encounter party (PEN) and with the deputy Carlos Rejala of the Hagamos party.

The interviewee stressed that there is a popular clamor for the unity of the opposition. For this reason, he is convinced that they will reach a complete unit for the next presidential elections.

VILLAREJO
Sebastián Villarejo, national deputy for the PPQ, pointed out that, from his party, they are determined to be part of a concertation. That is, to have a presidential candidacy and compete with the other candidates.

“Within this framework of building a consensus, it is necessary to dialogue with all the actors. Because dialogues are needed to generate consensus ”, he stated.

It should be remembered that Sebastián Villarejo was, a couple of years ago, the PPQ candidate for the municipal elections. However, he declined his intentions to aim for the 2023 presidential elections.

FRONT GUASU
During the last municipal elections, the Guasu Front (FG) candidates decided not to join an opposition alliance in Asunción. This had a negative impact on the flow of votes generated by the then liberal candidate Eduardo Nakayama.

Regarding the negotiations with the FG, Villarejo affirmed that none of the parties should renounce their principles or back down to their positions.

“The challenge will be to find coincidences that may exist on some issues. The agreement should be like a semifinal where models must face each other. More than backwardness, it is necessary to look for the coincidences and respect the differences ”, he pointed out.
