The national deputy of the Frente de Todos (FdT), Leopoldo Moreau, considered this Saturday that the attempted assassination of Vice President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner “crossed a red line” and stated that it “strengthens the need for dialogue” to achieve a framework of general agreement and overcome structural problems in the country.
In statements to Radio Provincia, the national deputy considered that “The attempted assassination from the institutional point of view crossed a red line and strengthens the need for dialogue” and said that it is necessary “to know if there are conditions to rebuild democratic coexistence.”
“The democratic pact that was born in 1983, which promised us that we would never again use the state apparatus to persecute and imprison opponents, was broken in 2015 when the Macri government persecuted leaders, did not respect due process, appointed judges of the Supreme Court by decree and wiped out the Constitution”
In this sense, in line with the expressions of the Vice President, she indicated that “the assassination attempt revealed that the democratic pact had been broken in Argentina.”
“The democratic pact that was born in 1983, which promised us that we would never again use the state apparatus to persecute and imprison opponents, it was broken in 2015 when the Macri government persecuted leaders, did not respect due process, appointed judges of the Supreme Court by decree and destroyed the Constitution“, he warned.
Likewise, he pointed out that in the attack “fortunately the bullet did not come out and then this has to be transformed into an opportunity to rebuild the democratic pact” and stated that “the first step should be taken by the president of the main opposition party, Patricia Bullrich del Pro, who up to now has not condemned the attack”.
Moreau stressed that “these are not demands” to arrive at the dialogue, but He called for “processing the differences within the rules of the game established by the Constitution, the law, the rule of law”.
He also pointed out that “the judicial party played a fundamental role in creating this climate of hatred” and stated that the “review has to be carried out within the judiciary.”
On the other hand, when asked about a possible suspension of the Open Simultaneous and Mandatory Primary elections (STEP) for next year, assured that the issue is not on the agenda and affirmed that the way to settle candidates in the Frente de Todos will be considered by the political leadership of Cristina Kirchner, “who has regained centrality.”
Moreau indicated that sees the former president “very active, a little shocked by what happened, but with great integrity she is trying to unite the Argentines, I do not see her speculating with candidacies”.
Finally, he emphasized that political dialogue is necessary because “there is an agenda of structural problems that are impossible to overcome if we do not have a framework of general agreement.”
