Motorcycle production grows 17.9% in August

Abraciclo estimates production of 1.29 million motorcycles this year

In August, 145,852 motorcycles were produced at the Manaus Industrial Complex, according to a survey by the Brazilian Association of Motorcycle, Moped, Scooter, Bicycle and Similar Manufacturers (Abraciclo). The volume is 17.9% higher than that recorded in the same month last year, when 123,722 units were produced. It is also 39.2% higher compared to July, which registered 104,776 units. According to the association, this is the best result for August since 2013, when 157,854 motorcycles were delivered.

The president of Abraciclo, Marcos Fermanian, assesses that this production should be reflected in retail sales in September.

In the year, 921,921 units left the assembly line, which corresponds to an increase of 17% compared to the same period in 2021. The entity points out that this is the best number since 2014, when the sum of the same period exceeded 1 million.

For the year, Abraciclo’s projection is to produce 1.320 million motorcycles, an increase of 10.5% compared to the previous year.

In relation to retail sales, 118,545 units were registered, which represents an increase of 15.7% compared to the same month of 2021 (102,463 units). In comparison with the previous month, the increase is 10.3%, when just over 107,400 motorcycles were licensed. The most purchased model was the Street, with 57,791 motorcycles and a 48.8% market share. Next are the Trail model, with 22,637 units, and the Motoneta, with 17,844.

The Southeast was the region with the highest number of vehicles, with 45,944 motorcycles, which is equivalent to 38.8% of the market. In second is the Northeast, with 34,405 units and 29% of the market. Next is the North (15,267), Midwest (11,511) and South (11,418).

Year to date, the first three positions remain: Southeast (334,868), Northeast (254,903) and North (105,434). The South occupies the fourth position, with 85,243 motorcycles, and the Center-West in the fifth, with 82,161 units.

A total of 7,807 motorcycles were exported in August, a volume 39.2% greater than that recorded in August last year, when 5,607 units were traded. In comparison with July, the increase is 57.3%, as the foreign market acquired 4,962 motorcycles.

The main market is Colombia, with the acquisition of 1,436 units, or 25.7% of the total shipped. The United States ranks second, with 1,386 units, followed by Canada (926).
