Government investment will allow construction of a home for people with disabilities

The agreement signed this Thursday the 15th between the Ministers of Social Development, Martín Lema, and of Transport and Public Works, José Luis Falero, will allow the first stage of the project to be completed. Up to 23 residents will be housed in the home of the Association for the Mentally Disabled (Aprodime) and will work 24 hours a day. This first stage the investment of the Government reaches 4,500,000 pesos.

After the visit of the authorities to the department of Paysandú, Minister Lema, in dialogue with the Presidential Communication, valued the work carried out by the Aprodime technical team and highlighted the commitment of the families and people who are part of the institution.

He recalled that during the meeting he held with those responsible for the civil association in November 2021, he received the proposal of the need to have a center to care for patients 24 hours a day and not on an outpatient basis, as until now.

Portfolio efforts began with the support of the National Food Institute (INDA) and continued with the signing of the agreement with the Ministry of Transport and Public Works (MTOP), which will finance the first stage of the works.

The home will be built on a property adjacent to the Aprodime headquarters and will accommodate up to 23 people with intellectual disabilities, who have difficulties with family integration and who require therapeutic support and personalized attention.

For his part, Falero assured that during this administration the social agreements tool doubled the amount for the institutions. “Public money is for everyone and throughout the country; that is decentralization” he underlined.

The MTOP will finance the first stage of the work, which will allow the center to provide care to eight residents, with a planned capacity for up to 23. The investment reaches 4,500,000 pesos.

Falero said that an agreement was also signed with the Fortaleza Institute, which will serve children with disabilities and will allow the total repair of the premises. In this opportunity, the portfolio investment amounts to 2,600,000 Uruguayan pesos.

Inauguration of the fourth mobile office of Mides

During the day, Minister Lema, together with the Undersecretary, Andrea Brugman, participated in the inauguration of the fourth Mides mobile office in the country.

The objective is to reach those people who do not have the possibility of going to the information centers in the territory. “It is a tool that allows us to reach everyone,” Lema stressed.

He explained that the mobile will go through all the locations of the department and that the device will have trained technicians to serve users.

He highlighted the coordinated and effective work with the departmental governments of Montevideo, Canelones, Cerro Largo and Paysandú that allow these initiatives to materialize. “This is more closeness, and more closeness is more development,” she stressed.

Transportation Investment in Paysandú

Falero announced that the works that will pave the access to the city of Quebracho, in Paysandú, will be completed. The investment for this work reaches 1,100,000 dollars.
