Former President Trump said Thursday that he “can’t imagine being indicted” for his handling of classified documents or a plan to field alternate electors after the 2020 election. But if he were, that wouldn’t deter him from running for president. president again in 2024.
“I can’t imagine being charged. I haven’t done anything wrong,” Trump told conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt.
“I don’t think people would tolerate it,” he added. “And as you know, if something like this happened, I would not be barred from running.”
In the interview, Trump claimed he was not involved in a plot to field alternate voters in Georgia. Georgia prosecutors have been investigating the scheme and interviewing Trump associates such as Rudy Giuliani about the matter.
The former president also repeatedly denied wrongdoing in his handling of classified documents after the FBI searched his property in Mar-a-Lago last month. The agency conducted the search months after finding dozens of classified documents at the residence and unsuccessfully trying to recover materials Trump had taken from the White House.
Trump reaffirmed that he had declassified all the documents he kept in his home more than a year after leaving office, although experts have denied that he could do so without going through a more formal process.
“There is no reason why they can [acusar]other than if they’re just sick and upset, which is always possible, because I did absolutely…nothing wrong,” he said.
