“Our tax system encourages evasion. Our proposal does not increase taxation. It keeps the collection as it is, it keeps the redistribution of resources to states and municipalities, so there is no fuss in relation to governors and mayors. We keep taxation, we just change the way of collecting it so that it affects 100% of the population and when everyone pays, everyone pays less,” he said.

The candidate participated in the Dialogue with the Presidential Candidates, an event organized by the National Association of Tax Auditors of the Federal Revenue Service of Brazil (Anfip), the National Union of Tax Auditors of the Federal Revenue (Sindifisco) and the National Federation of State and District Tax Authorities (Fenafisco), in São Paulo-SP.

“This should be the central discussion in Brazil,” he said. “The federal single tax is mature enough to pass easily through the National Congress. First is respect for the federative pact. We will start with the replacement of 11 federal taxes with a single tax”, added the candidate.

According to Soraya, the measure would exclude income tax, import and export.

“The tax burden weighs on the shoulders of 70% of Brazilians and affects consumption, so it is not progressive. It’s unfair. The population bears it. Be poor, be rich, be a millionaire, everyone will pay. Thirty percent of the population either withholds or is from informality, or is from criminality and there is evasion of foreign exchange, money laundering, a series of issues”, he argued.
