MIAMI, United States. – A mobile phone manufactured in Cuba by the Industrial Company for Informatics, Communications and Electronics (GEDEME), will go on sale next Monday, September 19, according to announced on their social networks the entity itself.
The phone, called GDM-MB10, will be priced at 16,537.50 pesos (CUP). Those who wish to acquire it must pay that amount virtually, through the EnZona electronic payment platform.
The cell phone has a six-inch high-definition screen and a storage capacity of 32 gigabytes and three gigabytes of RAM.
Among other peculiarities, its operating system is Android 10 and it will have two SIM card slots.
In May 2021, GEDEME ad who was in “the final stage of the first cell phone prototype [cubano]” and indicated that its architecture would adapt to the conditions of the Island “with the software and systems developed by Cuban institutions.”

Later, the UCI reported that it was developing its own operating system to incorporate it into the first cell phone prototype created in Cuba by GEDEME.
Said operating system, named NovaDroid, has been the target of critics who describe it as “slow”.
In 2016, GEDEME inaugurated a assembly factory that, at the end of the year, had a production chain for tablets and laptops and promised to produce 50,000 of these devices the following year.
However, as he told the official medium Cubahora the president of the Electronics Business Group (to which GEDEME belongs), the company then had the capacity to produce 120,000 units per year.
