The Cuban cyclist Arlenis Sierra, multiple Pan American champion and in World Tour races, remains the first woman from the Americas in the world ranking, after this week’s update.
The manzanillera climbed one seat and ranked 23rd, with 1,264 units, according to the ranking on the official website of the International Cycling Union.
Up front are only the biggest stars of road cycling, including Olympic and world champions on roads and tracks.
Behind are athletes such as the 2021 Olympic runner-up in the Tokyo time trial, the Swiss Marlen Reusser (26th place on the ranking), and the Dutch Lucinda Brand, multiple world titleholder in road (time trial) and cyclocross (36th place).
Cyclists Annemiek van Vleuten and Arlenis Sierra lead the Movistar Team in the Tour de France
The first competition that gives points for Sierra in the current ranking is the 2021 World Championship, in Flanders (Belgium), in which on September 25 he made headlines with a historic fifth place in the road test. With this he added 275 points to the list.
Since 2017, Sierra has been able to remain among the top ten female riders on a universal list. Her place of honor continues to be occupied by Olympic and world champion Annemiek van Vleuten, her teammate on the Movistar Team.
The Cuban has been key in 2022 in the collective work according to Van Vleuten, to win the most important competitions, the Tour de France Femmes and the Giro d’Italia Donne, among other important races.
Van Vleuten, an admirer of Sierra, according to statements released by the Movistar Team, will meet the Cuban on September 24 in the queen round of the World Championship in Australia.
